A letter to the family taking one of our kittens home

Before your kitten leaves our arms for yours, there are a few things we would love you to know.

Dear new Ragdoll family,

By the time you read this, you have probably watched every video we sent, chosen a name, and bought more toys than one small cat could ever need. We have been getting ready too. Going-home day is a happy day, and a tender one, for everyone in our house.

What your kitten already knows

Your kitten has been held every single day since birth. They know the sound of the vacuum cleaner, the bustle of a family dinner and the feel of gentle hands. They have learned manners from their mother and played themselves to sleep in a heap with their littermates. They are ready for you.

What they don’t know yet

They don’t know your home, your voice or your routine, and that is completely fine. The first night may be a little quiet, or a little loud. Give them a small, calm room to begin with, the food they are used to, and time. Sit on the floor and let them come to you. Most Ragdolls decide very quickly that your lap is the best place in the house.

A few small wishes

  • Keep them safely indoors, or give them a secure outdoor space. Their trusting nature is precious.
  • Brush them gently each week, even when they don’t need it. They will come to love it.
  • Talk to them. Ragdolls are quiet cats, but they listen to everything.
  • Send us a photo now and then. We never stop wondering how they are getting on.

We are still here

When you close the car door and drive away, you are not on your own. Whether it is a question in the first week or the twelfth year, we are always a message away, and if life ever changes, your Ragdoll can always come home to us.

Thank you for choosing to share your life with one of our kittens. We hope they bring you as much joy as they have brought us.

With love, The Adorable Ragdoll Kittens family
